A cold mist greeted athletes as they started the Heel & Crank Duathlon at Northrup-Grumman on Saturday and wound through Cummings Research Park. After a 2.5-mile run, competitors switched to the 10-mile bike portion, before finishing with another 2.5 miles on foot. Proceeds from the event are used to raise awareness of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
